last minute questions

To photograph or not to photograph? I can't decide whether to take a camera along with me on the marathon or not. How do those of you who take pictures as you run do it? (Oliver?) I can't imagine holding a camera while also worrying about opening gel packets, drinking water, etc. I don't like running with a fanny pack, and I've got one of those pairs of shorts with about 5 mesh pockets in it, but none would be large enough to hold a camera. Any ideas?

What about the spycam?

As small as a gel! The only problem is you must be stopped when taking a pic or it will definately be blurry.

I'm thinking that you'll want a camera when things are nice, but if you get tired and need to concentrate, you may end up throwing the thing into the crowd.

I say take a disposable camera. I wore a small pack last year, the camera fit perfectly (along with a cell phone) and I have the cutest pictures of me with several of the characters!

As early as the Diz race starts, you'll probably be in the dark for quite some time and by the time you reach daylight you'll be kareening around like tea cups at Disney World (well not that bad, I'm sure). I'd be consumed with keeping up my pace and maintaining sanity to keep going. You're quite a multi-tasker if you pull it off. Don't they offer some individual picture shooting options you can pay for?
And as for those 5 pounds ... I wouldn't expect them to be there the afternoon of the race. It's going to be mighty warm around these parts at weekend.
I'm rooting for you! You go girl!

Thanks for the tips! That does sound nice, to have pictures with the characters along the way. But I'm not good at that much multitasking. I may compromise and get a one-use camera... And David, you're right, it's going to be exceedingly hot this weekend. 80 degrees! Whew. Not the nice weather we had on the day of the OUC half...

I never take any additional things with me when I am racing! No camera, no bars, no mobile, nothing. They just disturb me. Moreover, usually I am that wet from all the drinks I am taking I have to pack them into something waterproofed ;-) When I am taking a camera with me it's just in my slow training runs, i.e. no camera when I am doing a speed run or intervalls. Although I have a very small and thin one, but holding it in my hand or having it in a pocket or just worse wearing a belt, puh, that's not my kind of racing.

Good luck for Sunday!
